Amateur Radio Foundation Course (Australia) – Theory
1

Description

Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics, and communication together. It involves the use of the radio frequency spectrum for non-commercial purposes, such as:

  1. Emergency communication: Providing assistance during disasters and other critical events.
  2. Personal communication: Talking with friends and family around the world.
  3. Wireless experimentation: Learning about radio waves and building electronic circuits.
  4. Self-training: Improving technical skills and knowledge.
  5. Private recreation: Participating in contests and other activities.

As part of this course we will cover the theory required for the Australian Foundation License. Please use this material in conjunction with the WIA (Wireless Institute of Australia) Foundation Manual. See links provided below.

View the following video to learn more about Amateur Radio –

Amateur radio operators, or “hams,” are licensed by their respective governments and assigned a unique call sign. They can communicate using various modes, including voice, Morse code, and digital data. As part of this course we will cover the various fundamental concepts you will need to know to pass your Foundation License exams.

All the video content we have linked to from this tutorial has been created and is owned by Ron Bertrand VK2DQ. Ron runs RES (Radio & Electronics School) which focuses on training budding Amateurs with a view to helping them obtain their Foundation, Standard, Advanced licenses. The RES website is accessible at – https://www.res.net.au/. I happened to study Ron’s tutorials and content for my Foundation License, Standard License and will vouch for the top quality of resources he provides.

Once you have passed your Foundation License, you have the option to subscribe to the Standard License course at the RES website and work towards your Standard License. Ron is an accomplished professional, charges a very nominal fee to access the learning content. I haven’t come across better learning content here in Australia, i absolutely stand to be corrected on that.

You will also need to purchase your Foundation Manual from WIA (Wireless Institute of Australia) Store – WIA Store
